Milling is a process in which a milling machine removes material from a stationary workpiece. There are two main types of milling machines. For this post, we will be discussing the Horizontal Milling Machine. As the name suggests, a Horizontal Milling Machine has a horizontally oriented axis. The machines are often used for deeper cuts and have thicker cutting tools than vertical milling machines. It is also used in more complex projects and projects using heavy materials. The material and setup of the horizontal milling machine allow for projects to be done quickly and with a professional finish. Although the initial investment of a horizontal mill is higher than the vertical, the output is high, and productivity is increased while decreasing labor needs.
